TOTNES Bowling Club had two teams competing recently in the Devon County Ladies tournament.

The A team took on Holsworthy A and were unfortunately beaten 447-397, Caitlyn Knell top-scoring with 55.

Totnes B had far more success though and made it all the way to the final, where they prevailed once more.

First off, they played Bideford Band and won 428-381. Standout performances came from Maria Trant on 73 and Emma Saunders and Mandy Sharland, who notched 61 apiece.

They then moved on to face Bideford A against whom they were also victorious, this time by a 396-376 scoreline. Emily Stolworthy led the way on 68 and Mandy chipped in with another 61.

The next game against St Thomas Social Club was slightly tougher and Totnes B found themselves 36 down after three ends.

On end four, Totnes gained back 11 and a further 14 on end five. St Thomas' last end was 65 which meant Totnes needed 78 to win.

Mandy Sharland helped the cause with a 15-spare and Sarah added a spare of her own to land the win by two pins.

In the final against Holsworthy A, Totnes had to battle back again having been 34 down going into end five.

They slowly chipped away at the deficit to the point that, ahead of the final end, Totnes were ahead by two.

Holsworthy had a 69-end meaning a 68 would win it for Totnes.

Sam Hodge started the spares off with a 14 and Cherry Paul followed suit with a 13 and Sarah Life ended the game with a 15, meaning they took the win by 10 pins.

Totnes B team consisted of Emma Saunders, Mandy Sharland, Emily Stolworthy, Sam Hodge (captain), Cherry Paul, Marie Trant, Bev Good, Sarah Life and Ruby Hollet.

Marie Trant also had the highest score of the day with 73.

Unfortunately, both individual representatives Caitlyn Kneil and Marie Trant fell at the first hurdle.
