EIGHT games survived Storm Austen on Saturday, October 24, across the six divisions of the South Devon Football League, reports Alastair Muirden.
There was an almighty contest at Broadpark in the game between Kingsteignton Athletic and East Allington Utd where the grounds team had clearly gone the extra mile to get the game on, and what a game it was.
End-to-end with plenty of action and entertainment for the larger than normal attendance to enjoy, it looked cosy in the grandstand as everybody was huddled together trying to avoid the rain that came from all sides.
Finn Bullingham gave the Pirates the lead early in the second half but the Rams roared back, Tom Reeves poking home an equaliser 10 minutes later.
Either side could have won it but it wasn’t to be and on the balance of play, a draw was a fair result.
The only other top-flight game to go ahead also ended in a stalemate, Chudleigh Athletic and Newton 66 scoring two goals apiece.
Just the one game survived in Division One and Brixham Town were able to get their first win of the season as they edged out Babbacombe Corries by two goals to one.
There are new leaders in Division Two as Newton Abbot Spurs 3rds took advantage of Galmpton and Kerswell being rained off, beating Paignton Saints 2nds at Coach Road.
In Division Four, it was top versus bottom at Manadon and Signal Box moved three points clear at the top with a comfortable 7–1 victory over Paignton Villa 3rds. Windmill meanwhile won 3-2 against Ilsington Villa 2nds.
Both clashes in Division Five saw comprehensive home victories.
At the sixth time of asking, Broadhempston United got their first league win of the campaign and did so in style, putting eight unanswered goals past Newton Rovers 2nds.
They were nearly matched by Newton Albion who defeated Kingsbridge & Kellaton United 7-0.
