EAGLES Acrobatic Gymnastics Club gymnasts are on cloud nine after taking part in the London Festival of Gymnastics for the fifth successive year.

The Kingsbridge Community College-based club had had two months of intensive training for the festival, which was celebrating its 21st anniversary.

The gymnasts then wowed the 1,000-strong crowd at the Brentwood Centre, just north of London, with two contrasting routines.

They were performed to 'The Climb' by X-Factor 2009 winner Joe McElderry and 'Ice Ice Baby' by Vanilla Ice and were choreographed by Eithne Bryan, an ex-gymnast with the club and dancer.

The routines demonstrated the diverse nature of the sport and included individual, pairs and trio moves, as well as tumbles and group balances – all linked with creative dances.

Head coach Hannah Penman said: 'Our gymnasts, who represent the South Hams at regional, national and international levels, are role models for any young person who wants to achieve their aspirations through hard work and determination. 'They are an extremely dedicated and resilient group of young people, who work hard as a team while developing as individuals.'

She added: 'We would like to say thank you to Quay Transport for their generous contribution towards our travel costs, without which we might not have been able to go this year.

'We would also like to thank Tesco and the generosity of its customers during our recent bag pack, which helped considerably towards the accommodation costs.

'Finally, we are very grateful to Sarah Budgen for organising a fundraising raffle and the donation of prizes and Amanda Saxon, who organises everything for us.'
