A GROUP of hockey enthusiasts from Kingsbridge Community College travelled to Wembley Arena to watch fast-paced and thrilling six-a-side indoor hockey recently.

They watched Britain's top men's and women's hockey players battle it out in the Super Sixes finals. The students got the chance to meet some of the players playing in the finals as well as the fantastic opportunity to get autographs from the men's Great Britain squad, who are gearing up to compete in the London 2012 Olympics.

All of the students currently train and play for the college, including the team who competed at the Devon county finals before Christmas.

This event gave them the chance to watch elite players playing the faster indoor game, which has inspired them to improve their hockey skills, said the school.

After the men's semi-finals, the women's final saw Leicester take on Reading, a match which including some of the England hockey team. This was a very close game with Leicester winning by 1-0.

The men's final was a goal-filled thriller, with East Grinstead beating Reading by 8-5, with the KCC students being able to see Ashley Jackson and England captain Barry Middleton scoring some outstanding goals.

Kelly Luscombe and Sarah Budgen, who accompanied the students to the event, said: 'It was a great day out for the students and inspirational to see some top-class hockey and meet some of the players who will be representing Great Britain this summer.'
