AS the NBA Finals come to an end, Totnes is picking up the basketball reins.

A newly formed team, Totnes Reign, played its first game against Ivybridge Ignite. The final score was 54–26 to Ivybridge, but Totnes showed resilience and proved it could compete, fielding a squad that included a father-and-son duo as well as several first-time players.

It was a great first step for a team that is already growing and improving.

Founded after a group of friends began attending Ivybridge games and realised Totnes needed a team of its own, Totnes Reign is led by Chris van Praag.

Reign now has 35 members, trains twice a week, and is actively looking for both new players and teams to play against.

The NBA may be in the off-season, but there is plenty of basketball happening locally too.

Jake Gorman was Totnes top soccer with 12 and there were some great blocks from Nick Holder.
