Rovers U13s 3,
Totnes and
Dartington U13s 0
This was the first game of the season and it was Modbury who looked like they settled first as they pushed forward using Louis Brace and Harry Hawken on the wings.
However, it was a clever ball through from Ed Petit that saw Zac Joseph take a brilliant first touch and smash past the Totnes stopper to open the scoring.
As they restarted, it was Modbury again who pounced on a loose ball which Brace took, turned and after skinning two defenders coolly shot in to the 'keeper's nearside bottom corner to double Modbury's tally.
Totnes tried to push forward, but Modbury were holding their defensive line well with Toby Berry and Luke Holt making perfectly timed and perfectly placed tackles to stop any chance of them troubling their 'keeper Alex Thomas,
With more attacks coming from Modbury as Petit and Joseph ran riot, flicking passes out wide to Brace and through the defence to see Jack Eades narrowly miss, the score remained till half time with goalie Thomas only being called on twice, which he dealt with with great confidence.
The second half started much the same, with Modbury controlling the game from 'keeper to striker, as they were attacking a corner, Modbury were awarded a penalty for a blatant shove on the captain, Eades stepped up but failed to convert the chance as the Totnes goalie saved it well.
Totnes just couldn't find a way past a solid defensive pairing of Chris Teague and Petroc Brown, adding the full-backs of Ethan King and Luke Holt bossing their wings and they kept coming up short.
As Modbury were on their way forward again, it was a beautiful pass from Berry that Petit, who was playing with the touch of a pro, chipped over the defence.
The also in-form man-of-the-match Joseph took it down and placed it past the 'keeper into the far corner to make a comfortable 3-0 score line.
There seemed to be more time for goals as Hawken, Eades, Petit, Joseph and Brace were firing shots that the Totnes 'keeper did well to deal with.
There was one more moment of excitement as the Totnes striker managed to round the oncoming Thomas and shot towards the open goal, only to see it cleared off the line by King.
All in all, a great start for Modbury who will look to carry on their good form into next week's cup game.
