Tour of Britain 'zips' through Kingsbridge

The much-anticipated Tour of Britain hit Kingsbridge earlier today and was met with rapturous applause by onlookers as the Peloton made their way through town. The Devon stage started in the new community of Sherford in the South Hams with the last leg of the race ending in the city of Exeter.

Jenna Waters, Vistry Partnerships, part of the Sherford Consortium said: “Hosting the Tour of Britain was an honour and we were delighted to support this incredible event. "The vision for Sherford has always been to create a vibrant new community that people love being part of, and we think that is especially the case today."Robin Carpenter (Rally Cycling) soloed to a breakaway victory on stage 2 of the Tour of Britain in Exeter, taking the leader's blue jersey in the process, as he finished 33 seconds ahead of Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) and Alex Peters (SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling), who led the peloton home.The cathedral city last hosted a stage finish in 2014 when Austrian Matthias Brändle soloed to the victory.For more coverage see this week’s Gazette.
