A home in Totnes was severly smoke logged in a fire that broke out during the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews from Totnes, Paignton and Buckfastleigh attended the scene at Plymouth Road at 2.44am after a neighbour reported hearing the smoke alarm and seeing smoke pouring through a window at the back of the property.

On arrival, crews found the property heavily smoke logged and instructed four breathing apparatus wearers to investigate further.

After a full inspection of the property, it was confirmed that the fire was out.

The property sustained 20 per cent fire damage, 25 per cent heat damage and 100 per cent smoke damage, a spokesman from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service reported.

He added: “The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. However, Devon and Cornwall Police remain on scene for investigation purposes.”
