David and Carol Horton, of Woodhouse Farm, West Alvington, write: We were asked and allowed Kingsbridge Community College's Year 11 to organise an 'after prom' party on our land on Thursday, June 26. The event was a private party, organised by the kids themselves to celebrate the end of their exams and education together, which has been happening for several years in various locations. This year it was a little closer to the town. While it was not arranged by the college, it should be proud of the pupils' organisational skills, behaviour and their sense of living life. The pupils arranged for security on the gate and happily everyone respected the right of this year group to party alone and there were no incidences from the attendees. They also advised the police of the event and location in advance, giving contact numbers for any issues on the night. We received no calls from the officials until 2.30am, when the South Hams Council's environmental health officer turned up to shut the event down. Being in the field with the now young adults, the noise was not outrageous but we understand that it carried across the estuary and to those we disturbed, we apologise. No offence was meant to be caused. To the students' credit, they complied immediately and with no bad behaviour, just good grace. Again their respect for other people was shown and the parents of this group should be very proud of their behaviour and the reaction from their children. Well done, Year 11, we hope you had a good night.
