King Edward VI Community College invites Totnes organisations to use grass pitch

King Edward VI Community College (KEVICC) in Totnes is inviting local community organisations to make use of its grass pitch alongside the school's all-weather sports pitch.

The grass pitch is now available to community groups for sporting activities, with the school already having agreements in place with a range of local sports organisations using the all-weather pitch.

Groups interested in using the grass pitch can book sessions through the school's website by selecting the Community Use link on the homepage. Users should select Grass Pitch on the booking system and choose an available time slot.

A confirmation email will then be sent containing a security code for the nearby car park, which can be used for the duration of the booking. The school said becoming an authorised user would allow community groups dedicated access to the facility while helping it manage who is using the site and when.

The move comes as Education South West (ESW), which runs KEVICC, progresses plans to sell some land at the school following approval from the Department for Education.

Existing sports facilities, including the all-weather pitch and the grass area alongside it, will be retained and remain available for authorised community use. ESW said access to both pitches and parking would continue after the land sale.

The grass pitch, marked A in plans provided by the school, is on the Elmhirst side of the road alongside the all-weather pitch.

Any proceeds from the future sale of land will be reinvested in KEVICC, with the school saying the money will support refurbishment and modernisation across its estate.

The college will continue operating across its Redworth and Kennicott sites while using the sports facilities on the Elmhirst site.

The planned investment is expected to include internal and external improvements to buildings and facilities.

Alan Salt, principal at KEVICC, said the school already worked with several local sports groups but wanted to hear from others interested in using its facilities. "We already work closely with several local sports groups, but we know there are other organisations in the town that would like to benefit from the facilities we have available."
