KINGSBRIDGE Community College student Arthur Seal has had his wish to meet his hero granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Arthur, 14, lives in Totnes and was diagnosed with Ataxia telangiectasia in May 2010 and T-Cell lymphoma in February 2015. His wish was to go to the Monaco Grand Prix and meet Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton.
Arthur, along with with his mum Lucy and four other Starlight wish children, was whisked away by Starlight for the trip-of-a-lifetime, and enjoyed a very special four night trip, watching on of the most famous races.
Arthur soaked up the atmosphere in the pit lane, hung out in the Paddock, spent time at the Red Bull Energy Station and watched the race from very luxurious surroundings at the Fairmont Hotel on the Hairpin bend.
From start to finish, the trip was a dream come true for Arthur who was is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Ataxia telangiectasia, or AT, is a rare, neurodegenerative, inherited disease causing severe disability. This means that Arthur’s mobility is very limited and he will sadly have a shortened life expectancy.
Arthur’s mum, Lucy, said: ‘The whole trip was magical. It was so lovely seeing his face light up every time he met someone famous, especially Lewis! He kept saying he was in heaven!
‘Arthur made some lovely friends on the trip and felt less isolated being with other kids who are going through a similar experience. It was so great to see him smiling and enjoying “time-out” from treatment and hospital and being a “normal child”.
‘This wish really did mean everything to Arthur and to us as a family- his dream really has been fulfilled.’
