Adventurous youngsters from a South Hams primary school experienced the wilds of Dartmoor during a residential trip.

A large group of 36 Year 4 pupils from Woodlands Park Primary School took a three-day residential trip to Heatree Activity Centre in Manaton, on the eastern side of the moor.

A particular highlight of the trip was a ’stream scrabble’, where the group had to clamber over natural obstacles as they negotiated a Dartmoor watercourse, which they found very wet and cold. Other memorable activities included orienteering, bush craft, fire building and toasting marshmallows.

A school spokesman said: "The children really enjoyed their stay, and the opportunity to experience things away from home in a new environment."
