A desperate plea has gone out to fun-loving residents to come forward and help keep Totnes Carnival afloat.

The colourful event will fold unless more people get involved in running it, warns chairwoman Claire Allford.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, for the past two years the town has gone without the week-long event, which culminates in an eye-catching carnival procession.

But the committee hopes to get the show back on the road in 2022.

Claire urged anyone who is interested in helping to organise the popular annual jamboree to pop along to the carnival committee’s annual meeting on Monday November 1.

She said: “We are really hoping that we can have our carnival next year, but we really need people to join our very small committee to help organise events in order for it to happen

“It’s not a massive commitment like it was - we won’t be building a float, as we planned before Covid to have a walking procession,

“And we aren’t attending other carnivals in the area any more; we are just focussing on ours and putting on some great events - but that does take people to come forward.

“If people don’t come forward it is in real danger of either Totnes just having the procession or nothing at all.

“We really need people to make it all happen and put Totnes Carnival back on the map after a two year delay

“If you can spare a few hours to attend very few meetings, have ideas for events, or to help at the events then please pop along to our AGM on Monday 1st November at 7pm at the Totnes Conservative Club in Station Road.

“You don’t have to be a part of the committee officially if that puts you off, you can be on the email list or still turn up to meetings and offer what you can when you can.”

“Please get in touch, Totnes Carnival needs your help,” she pleaded.
