THE A38 eastbound was closed on Friday morning while police dealt with the aftermath of an incident in which a man appears to have walked in front of a moving lorry.
Emergency services were called at 11am to the scene, near the Shell Carew garage between Wrangaton Cross and Marley Head junctions on the A38.
Devon & Cornwall Police said on Friday morning that one man had been pronounced dead at the scene, following a collision between a male pedestrian and a DAF HGV on the eastbound carriageway. The force said early reports suggested he had walked out onto the carriageway in front of the lorry.
The incident caused significant tailbacks on the dual carriageway, the eastbound carriageway of which remained closed between Ivybridge and Marley Head at 1.20pm.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the man on the A38 prior to the incident is asked to contact police by email via [email protected] or by telephone on 101, quoting log 290 of May 20, 2016.
