Kingsbridge A XV 10,      Young Farmers 19

This annual fixture lived up to its expectations as a fiery and passionate encounter between these two teams as the game was held in memory of former chairman Phil Darke. The farmers were clearly up for the challenge and the game started at a fast pace. Kingsbridge were the first to score with some good passages of play taking them up to their opponents' 22. A quick tap penalty from scrum-half Chris Lee and support from Richard Bond and Ted Lee saw the ball reach John Moore, who touched down in the corner before being bundled out of play for 5-0. The visitors replied with some big tackles and strong rucking that put the home side under pressure. Kings turned over a scrum on their own 22 and hacked the ball the length of the pitch, hoping to alleviate the pressure on their line. However, the Farmers' impressive number 13, Ed Palmer, ran back the length of the field, eveding the Kingsbridge defence to score near the posts. With the conversion added, the visitors led 5-7. The Farmers side then extended their lead to 5-12 as James Palmer gathered a loose ball to score in the corner. Kingsbridge started the second half well and put the Farmers side under pressure. This resulted in their second score of the game through number eight Ted Lee. The conversion was missed so Kingsbridge still trailed 10-12. The score remained the same until late in the game when the Farmers seized on a loose Kingsbridge pass to run in their third try and take the score to 19-10. The match was played with great spirit with the Young Farmers earning a deserved victory.  This weekend sees Kingsbridge complete their league programme for the season with a visit to Tavistock.
