Dartmouth U11s 2,
Newton Stripes U11s 1
Dartmouth U11s won a nerve-racking match against Newton Town Stripes on Saturday, April 21, to win the Plate final.
The match was held at Stoke Gabriel's ground and proved to be a true cup final, with an extra-time penalty settling things in favour of the Darts.
Coach Ciaran McClennon, who was been in charge of this side for six years, said: 'It's a great result, I'm very proud of them.'
The young Darts seemed to be feeling the pressure early on as they got off to a slow start, conceding inside the first ten minutes, but they showed resilience and determination to fight their way back into the game.
Tom Voyce grabbed the headlines as he first of all got them back on terms before the match ended in high drama. With the scores locked at 1-1 and the match into injury-time, a Newton player handled the ball in his penalty area, giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot.
The pressure must have been incredible, but Tom clearly has nerves of steel as he kept his composure to slot the spot-kick and give Darts a well-deserved victory.
Coach McClennon holds training sessions for young footballers from 5-6.30pm on Monday nights at Dartmouth Leisure Centre.
