The junior athletes from Erme Valley Harriers were in action at the second Devon Sportshall league match of the season in Dawlish.

This incorporated the Devon County Championships and the team won a very respectable total of 30 medals.

Best of the performances came from Sammy Harris, who won all three of her events in the U11 girls age group. She also set a new club record of 1.30m in the high jump and won both the two-lap hurdles and speed bounce.

Lewis Greenwood also won three medals in the U10 boys age group. Lewis won the standing long jump with an excellent jump of 1.99m and had two second places in the one-lap hurdles race and the vertical jump.

The other triple medallist was Mia O'Daly, who won the U11 girls standing triple jump, setting a new club record of 5.95m, and also took silver medals in the high jump and soft javelin.

In the U10 girls age group Leila Rodger won two gold medals in the chest push and soft javelin.

In the U15 age groups Lillie Coxon had a second place in the speed bounce and a third place in the two-lap hurdles race and Luke Riou had a good day, despite all his events being at the same time.

He won the U15 boys triple jump with a jump of 7.27m and also took a silver in the high jump, jumping 1.45m.

There were also two medals for U10 girl Olivia Travers, who won a silver in the one-lap hurdles and a bronze in the one-lap race.

More gold medals were won, with Ruth Green winning the U10 girls vertical jump and Sam Tutty taking the U11 boys high jump title. There was a total of six silver medallists with Sally Mogridge and Ben Bristow finishing runners-up in their high jump competitions. The others were Thomas Reeves in the U11 boys standing long jump, Nathan Brown and Dylan Fox in the speed bounce and also Bronwyn Harris in the U10 girls vertical jump.

The bronze medallists were as follows: William Bedford (U13 boys high jump), Daniel Norton in the U10 boys two laps, Nick Duncan in the U13 boys four laps, Hannah Reeves in the U15 girls standing triple jump and Will Grundy in the U15 boys speed bounce. The medals were spread well among the team but those who didn't win medals still played a major part in the teams success.

The club finished second overall on the day and this has brought the team closer to the top three teams after the two matches. With three matches still to go there is a realistic chance of a top three finish.

A number of the club's athletes will also be picked to represent Devon in the regional sportshall competition early next year.
