Year 7 Ivybridge Community College student Pierre Michelin took part in the 2015 British Schools Judo Championships.
More than 400 schools descended on Sheffield on Saturday, March 7 for the event, with 525 judoka taking to the mats in front of a large crowd.
It was a tough day for all the judoka from ICC, but Pierre, representing ICC, did himself – not to mention his judo club and his parents – proud by taking silver at the championships.
This was Pierre's first time at the British Schools Judo Champion-ships and he has only just recovered from a judo injury, so this represents a wonderful result for a first-timer at such a big event.
Pierre trains up to five times a week and is a proud club member of South Brent Judo Club.
This was Pierre's second contest of 2015 and his second silver of the year. Pierre had a fantastic judo year in 2014, during which he competed in 13 contests and won 13 medals – nine gold, one silver and three bronze. This included being a national medalist and international medalist.
This year things will be tougher for Pierre, who will now be competing in the under-16s age band, but with hard training, determination and the support of his judo club, Pierre is confident of another year of success.
