Cornwood (20 points) beat Paignton (3 points) by 124 runs

MOHAMMAD Salman crashed a century to put Cornwood on course for a hefty 124-run victory over Paignton.

Pakistani international Salman took the Paignton attack for 106 in a well paced innings, as Cornwood amassed 241 for four.

He was out in the last over trying to force the score up to the 250 mark.

Along the way in a chanceless innings there were stands of 91 for the fourth wicket with skipper Craig Harris (30no), 74 for the third with Jason Hall (33) and 68 for the second with Ryan Rickard (16).

Salman fired 11 fours and a six during his 153-ball stay, which ended when he was last man out, caught in the deep by Paignton captain Andy Kingdon off the bowling off Terry Farkins (2-53).

Paignton's reply never really got going as wickets continued to fall regularly, and they eventually slipped to a 124-run defeat.

Star bowler with his second five-wicket haul this season was Andy Bees (5-19), ably assisted by tight bowling from Mike Wood and Matt Butterworth.

Salman then returned to haunt the Paignton batsmen, mopping up the tail with an impressive 4- 8.

Cornwood 2nd XI came back from Paignton with just eight points after failing to chase down a challenging target of 244, thanks largely to M. Smith who stroked his way to 127 runs.

Pick of the Cornwood bowlers was Robin Dart with 8 – 38. In reply Cornwood could only manage 169 runs with Dave Walter hitting 51 of them.

Better luck for the 3rd XI, who recorded their third straight victory, which moved them clear at the top of the 2nd XI C division. Dave Petherbridge top scored with 69 no.

He was ably supported by Richard Cavendish, who made 46. Corns declared on 255-4, and in reply Shobrooke Park only managed 138 runs, with Phil Bees taking 4-20.

Cornwood 4th XI are still to record a win this season after a disappointing defeat at Bridestowe.

This was a game they should have won after bowling Bridestowe out for  133 runs (N. O'Hea 4-32), but on a damp pitch too many batsmen got themselves out playing their shots too early and giving catching practice to the Bridestowe fielders.

In reply Cornwood could only manage 74, with Phil Gibson top scoring on 21 runs.
