DARTMOUTH RFC’s Walking Rugby team, the successful and former Devon champions, took part in the Topsham RFC WR festival last weekend.
Even though the Dartmouth side did not collect all the trophies, they held their own against 14 strong teams from all over the country, including Kent and Bristol.
Dartmouth Walking Rugby coordinator Yvonne Cottam said after the festival: "The teams taking part in this festival were encouraged to reflect the inclusive approach of The RFU in their core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship in fun and non-aggressive play.”
Awards were given to teams participating for fair play and endeavour.
Darts’ team consisted of Chris and Belinda Northcott, Nigel Dixon, Simon Bulbulian, Andy Richards, Pat Putt and Yvonne Cottam. Their ages ranged from 28 yrs -78yrs.
The festival shield for endeavour was awarded to Belinda Northcott of Dartmouth Walking Rugby. It was felt by the festival organisers and other competing teams that Belinda epitomised the ethos of walking rugby.
Well done Belinda from the team and congratulations from the town of Dartmouth. Meanwhile, the team from Nailsea (Bristol) won the award for Fair Play.
Over 150 players, the majority of whom were 55+, took part in the festival. There were no overall winners or losers at this festival just a lot of fun, enjoyment and close bonding between all the teams taking part.
Dartmouth Walking Rugby team meet every Thursday on Norton Field (next to the leisure centre) between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, with all ages, abilities and genders welcome.
