DART Gig Club delivered a commanding performance at the Cattewater Regatta in Plymouth, bringing home a string of top finishes and staking a clear claim to the (unofficial) title of overall champions on Saturday, July 5.
The day opened with a blistering win in the Men’s B-race, as Dart's core men’s crew exploded off the line in Lightning and stormed to an emphatic first-place finish, setting the tone for what was to follow.
That same crew returned to the water to secure a hard-earned third place in the A-race before taking top spot in the Vets race.
With much of the core crew now weary and too young to carry on, a fresh mixed team stepped in for the Super Vets category, bringing another first-place finish thanks to a blend of composure and know-how.
As the tide turned and the men handed the oars over (one of which broke, a testimony to the challenging conditions), the Dart Ladies took to the water, unfazed by the white horses rolling across Plymouth Sound. They delivered a set of standout performances, the Ladies Vets taking gold and the Ladies Super Vets clinching silver in a gritty battle with the home crew.
The Ladies B crew, featuring newer members Keri and Emma, took on the waves bravely, finishing a solid fourth and outracing RMA (Royal Marines Association). “I loved it, racing’s so addictive!” said a buzzing Keri afterwards. The Ladies A followed with a powerful row of their own, digging deep against strong sea-rowing rivals and gaining vital experience for races to come.
At the prize-giving, Dart were awarded four of the coveted ‘doorstop cat’ trophies, marking them as the top-performing club of the day.
Congratulations to all crews for their effort, attitude, and energy - on the water and off. Also, a big shout-out to the newer members for their vocal support.
