Dartmouth men's section At last Robert Waye has done it when it counts. So often in the past he has turned up for a midweek circus and cleaned up with an outstanding score, but this time his outstanding score of 42 has cost him two shots. This should prove beyond doubt that he can do it, and eventually he will find his level. Andy Birss continues to play superb golf, coming in second with 40 points, and Simon Davis hit a purple patch to come in third with 39.  Meanwhile, the big-hitting Dave Boyce came in fourth with 38 and fifth was young buck Joe Nicholls with a respectable 37. On Saturday round two of the Gold Grand Prix saw an exceptional winner in the form of Solly Metchette, who carded 37 points, just five over par. Second was the 'Coppers delight' of the club Paul Marels with 33, third Dave Nicholls with 32, fourth Mike Whitelaw 30, fifth Lee Humphries 29, all good scores off the golds. There were two twos, bringing much gold to Paul Marels and Dave Nicholls, but not as much as Paul Brown picked up on Wednesday, when he scored the only two out of a field of 31 players. The Cobbler's Cup was played for on bank holiday Monday in pleasant spring conditions.  This is a mixed event and turnouts can often be unpredictable on bank holidays.  The popularity of the mixed events at DGCC is growing, however, and with the developing membership, more and more couples are joining in these sorts of competitions.  The Cobbler's Cup is played as a Greensome (both players drive, select a drive and then play alternate shots until the hole is completed).  The format is always testing in more ways than one, but at the end of the day, strained relationships can always be eased by good company and a large glass of wine. Good fortune flowed and ebbed in all games. Fred Porter, playing his wife Jill's delicately balanced drive at the edge of the water on the eighteenth, hit a marvellous shot on to the green, only to nearly end up falling back into the lake.  Steve Mayer hit a wonderful shot on to the 18th, winning the nearest the pin prize, but wife Christine just missed the four-foot putt for a two and so on; suffice to say an enjoyable time was had by all.  Steven and Chris Mayer won the Cobbler's Cup, retaining this prestigious trophy which they won last year, with an excellent score of 37 points. Last year's club captains David and Mary Thompson were second, closely followed in third place by their playing partners John and Jan Cousins.
