An England title beckons for South Hams bowler Lesley Crutchley who has qualified for the national finals of the Champion of Champions at Hayling Island.

After a super run in the area competition that in­cluded a marvellous defeat of Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Sophie Tolchard (Torquay United) 21-14, Crutchley was to seal a coveted place in the last 16 after beating Cornwall champion Marti Summer­field (Veryan) 21-9 at Plymouth.

'I did have a very good drawing game so I was delighted with the result', Crutchley said, as she looks forward to the final at the end of January where she has world indoor champion Katherine Rednall (Ipswich) in her half of the draw.

The Devon selectors' have named the ladies' team for the Atherley Trophy inter-county championships match with Dorset at Ply­mouth on Sunday (1.30pm). Among the reserves are Diane Smith (South Hams IBC) and Plymstock outdoor bowler Sarah Quayle (Ply­mouth).
