Gig rowers have had little time to rest after the excitement of the world championships in Scilly.

However, things are not going to get any easier, with June likely to be an extremely busy month for those of the gig racing fraternity.

Hopefully in some bright sunshine and warm temperatures, the festivities next month kick off with regattas at Teign and Mevagissey on June 1, giving lucky gig racers a choice of contest to attend.

The Sunday of that weekend, June 2, sees the citizens of Rock playing host, before Falmouth and Ilfracombe have their own regattas on Saturday, June 8.

The weekend of June 22 and 23 sees the South Hams' very own Salcombe welcoming crews from far and wide on the Saturday before Helford, Cornwall kicks off the day after.

The week after that the Cornish theme continues with Mounts Bay hosting on the Saturday and St Ives on the Sunday, although there is the opportunity to pass over St Ives and instead head up north to Appledore.

For those thinking the middle of weekend of June could be time for a judicious rest, the racers clearly have other ideas, with Saltash kicking off the mixed and veterans' championship weekend, likely to see the Tamar busy as ever with eager rowers.
