A group of girls from Ivybridge Junior Netball Club enjoyed a taste of success, coming second in the hotly contested U14s Torbay Spring Netball League.

Sarah West, the club’s coach, said: “I am delighted for the girls; they have gone from strength to strength this season and demonstrated that grit and determination will bring success.”

The club also fielded inexperienced U12 and U16 teams to gain experience of competitive match play.

Sarah is looking forward to the new season which kicks off next week, saying: “We are entering the Plymouth and District Netball League, where I hope to continue to build on the girls achievements last season.”

The club welcomes all girls aged 6-16 and boys up to 11 years of age without any trialling and train once per week on Wednesday evenings at Ivybridge Community College.

Vicky Rawlings, mum of one the players, said: “My daughter has been coming to the club for five years and really enjoys it.

“They welcome players of all abilities and teach netball in a positive and fun way; it’s about encouraging the children to do the best they can. It’s so important that teenage girls in particular feel able to exercise in a fun, non-judgmental and safe environment.”
