Ugborough U13s 1

KM United U13s 2

KM United played against Ugborough in an early 10am kick off at Uggie Park on a beautiful sunny morning.

The hosts must be commended on the quality of their pitch as it was in super condition and the stage was set for a decent game of football.

KM knew that a win would secure them promotion, and it was KM who started brightly. With the wind at their backs, KM had lots of possession and were firing lots of crosses into the penalty box.

However, the wind was actually proving to be more of a hindrance as their passes and crosses, on the small pitch, were often over hit and more often than not headed harmlessly towards the Ugborough goal keeper.

After 15 minutes, KM had to make a change as Luke Westlake, suffering from a broken toe, had to be replaced by Zin Berle. Zin made his intentions clear from the start with a series of crunching tackles.

Both teams were battling hard and were cancelling each other out.

KM had various chances, Tom Orr, Tom Mathews and Finlay Watson all having shots, but these either went wide or went straight at the 'keeper.

Ugborough had their chances too in the first half and Joe Rablah made a great save late on to turn the ball around the post for a corner.

Kieran Doyle and David Tunbridge were having solid games in the centre of defence and the first half finished all square at 0-0.

At the start of the second half, KM upped the tempo and a great ball in from the left wing by Elliott Bellamy was controlled by Tom Mathews. He in turn laid it off to Finlay Watson, Finlay strode forward and calmly slotted the ball past the goal keeper to make it 1-0.

This was still a hard battle, though, and Will Catling and Ewan Martin were working hard in midfield to break up play and create chances.

It was a great pass by Will Catling to set up KM's second goal. His through pass was picked up by Tom Orr and he went around a defender and smashed the ball past the advancing 'keeper to make it 2-0.

This seemed to spur Ugborough into life, though, and they started to press themselves.

Zin Berle and William Garner were having great games at the back, however, and when the Ugborough forwards managed to get a cross in Joe Rablah's handling was superb and time and time again he plucked the ball out of the air.

Ugborough's pressure finally told, though, and with 20 minutes to go their centre forward unleashed a fierce shot from outside the area which flew into the net to make it 1-2. The last 20 minutes were a tense affair, with both teams pressing for another goal, however KM hung on to secure the win.

Both teams should be congratulated on what proved to be an entertaining game. This win extends  KM's fine run to 13 games unbeaten and this latest win has secured their promotion to Division 1.

Congratulations must go to all the players and their manager; Jon Doyle would like to thank the parents and the KM United committee for all their support.

KM United  would like to thank  Specialist Vehicles of Plymouth, Marchand Petit  and Coast and Country Cottages for their sponsorship.
