DCL 2nd XI Division B
Kingsbridge CC 2nd XI 142 all out,
Plymstock CC
2nd XI 246-4
Plymstock (20 points) beat Kingsbridge (4 points) by 104 runs
On a chilly start to the new league season, Kingsbridge won the toss and opted to field first.
15-year-old Freddie Buckle, on debut, and the more experienced Mark Edmunds were asked to share the new ball.
Both produced excellent performances, Edmunds bowling 13 overs unchanged from the bottom end, including three maidens, to take 1 for 35.
Buckle, bowling in two five-over spells, took 1 for 33 and managed two maidens, both bowlers deserving better figures.
However, Kingsbridge were unable to contain a powerful Plymstock batting line up and an early injury to Joel Innocent left the home side fielding with 10 men for 40 overs. Plymstock finished on 246 – 4.
In reply, James Ellis and Matt Peach put on 60 for the first wicket, before Peach departed for 29 which included a massive six.
James Ellis, stylish as ever, hit an impressive 53 and Mark Edmunds 28.
The unfortunate run out of Clive Clark spelled the end for Kings; Edward Blunt hit a few good shots but the home team were all out for 142.
There were still a lot of positives taken from the match, especially Freddie Buckle, and the team will hope to improve away to Abbotskerswell seconds this week.
Kingsbridge Community College teacher George Barnicott was also captain of Plymstock – I am sure a bit of banter will be flying around this week at school from the younger playing members.
