B Division West

Kingsbridge 315 for six,

South Devon 111 all out;

Kingsbridge (20 points) beat South Devon (4 points)

by 204 runs

On a hot, sunny day at the butt, captain Clive Clarke won the toss and elected to bat on a great batting wicket, which was a great choice, with John Hardy reaching his 50 in nine overs but Ellis going in the third over.

Ed Church came in with Hardy and in the 20th over Hardy reached his 100 with some exquisite shots, while Church was holding down his end, leaving Hardy scoring freely at the other end.

In the 21st over Church was caught on 24, bringing in man of the match, young George Holland. On the back of a 52 last week, he came in and looked in great touch. Hardy and Holland looked as if they would never get out, but finally Hardy fell in the 32nd over, scoring a massive 149 – well batted John. Willmot and Clarke came and went, George made his back-to-back 50. After a well-earned knock he finally fell on 66, leaving M Edmonds and S Bailey-Lewis to bring the score to 315-6 after 45 overs.

In reply, South Devon looked to score quickly, but didn't really get started. Hammett opened the bowling alone with Edmonds, who took the first of three wickets with some tight bowling, while Clarke replaced Hammett 0-23 off four overs. Edmonds took his second wicket while Holland replaced Clarke at 0-22 off six overs. It didn't take long for Holland to join the party by taking a wicket; Edmonds took his final wicket, leaving him with figures of 3-28 after nine overs.

In came G Walker to the attack. Holland was bowling out of his skin and bowling tight. Walker looked rusty, but picked up three important wickets, leaving him with figures of 3-15 after five overs. Holland picked up 4-19 off five overs and the game was won, with Kingsbridge picking up maximum points. A big 20 points to kick-start their season. Kings are now one point behind South Devon, but 22 points behind Yeleverton and 30 behind this week's opponents Cornwood.

Another 20 points would help Kingsbridge out no end.

All in all, it was a good team effort on Saturday.
