Devon Cricket League 1st XI C division Kingsbridge 164 all out, Clyst Hydon 165-4. Clyst Hydon (22 points) beat Kingsbridge (five) by six wickets
Kingsbridge won the toss and batted first when they met Clyst Hydon last weekend. However, they had the worst possible start when skipper Bhanu de Silva was given out lbw for a duck. James Ellis and James Westlake started to repair the damage until Ellis departed for 15 to leave the score 28 for 2. Westlake was in good form and took the score along to 54 before disaster struck and three wickets fell for 11 runs, Westlake departing for 35 to leave Kings in the mire once more at 65 for 5. Again, things didnt look good. Will Dorey joined James Shepherd. Both batted well, taking the total past 100 before Dorey was out for 15. Will Pike then joined Shepherd, who was timing the ball nicely as the pair put on 58 for the seventh wicket before Shepherd was caught for 47. Pike soon followed for a fluent 25 as the last few wickets fell cheaply, leaving Kings to finish their innings 164 all out. A good start was imperative and two dropped catches in single figures was not the order of the day as 50 was put on the first wicket. Kingsbridge didn't bowl badly, but sadly all of their luck was bad. They kept chipping away and Shepherd and Rosewarne both took two wickets apiece as further catches went down, eventually losing by six wickets. The match ball was kindly sponsored by Healthwise. Kingsbridge seconds endured a similarly difficult day against Clyst seconds. Clyst posted a good total of 272-6, Clive Clark picking up 2-35 for the Kings, who in reply could only muster 134 to lose by 138 runs. Unfortunately, the news doesn't get better for Kings, who face a tough trip away to the league leaders Ipplepen this weekend.
