Devon Cricket League 1st XI C division Kingsbridge 163 all out, Clyst Hydon 149 all out. Kingsbridge (18 points) beat Clyst Hydon (seven) by 14 runs

Recent weeks have seen Kingsbridge's form improve. De Silva, on winning the toss against Clyst, again batted first, much to the opposition's surprise. The pitch had been covered but was still quite soft in places. The openers put on 41 and didn't look in too much trouble until James Westlake (22) looked to pull a short one that didn't bounce and was bowled. Matthewman (18) quickly followed to a sharp catch and Kings found themselves in usual territory at 69 for 4. Matt Peach and de Silva staged a recovery, taking the total past 100 before Peach was bowled for 25 when looking in good form. De Silva also went on 102, leaving Kings again in trouble. Bradbury joined Pike and the pair put on 34 and looked set when Pike was bowled for 15. Bradbury was playing a sensible innings, making sure the tail wagged slightly, but 136 for 8 didn't look good. However, with the help of Neal Peach (12) at number 11, this was raised to 163 and a fighting total. Bradbury top scored with 27 not out. Kingsbridge have managed to lose all the low-scoring tight games so far this season and early wickets haven't meant much, but 20 for 3 was a good start. What followed then was a middle order recovery as numbers five, six and seven all scored runs. At 97 for 4 victory seemed assured with overseas player Nandana smashing it. However, Westlake removed Holmes for 24 and the reintroduction of Rosewarne into the attack saw skipper de Silva catch Nandana for 42. A dropped catch saw a life for Wood but De Silva brought himself back on and 135 for 6 became 135 for 8, but dangerman Wood was still there. The score moved on to to 147 when Neal Peach was reintroduced and he duly bowled Wood for 28 with his first ball and then proceeded to drop Trude, a difficult caught and bowled when it looked like he had pouched it. It was fittingly left to de Silva to bowl the final man. Finishing with figures of 4-35 from 8.3 overs, he led Kings to victory by 14 runs. Peach took 2 for 16 from eight overs, Rosewarne 2-33 from seven and Westlake 2-33 from nine. The match ball was kindly sponsored by the Ring of Bells.

Devon Cricket League 2nd XI C division Kingsbridge 2nd XI 178-9, Clyst Hydon 2nd XI 51 all out. Kingsbridge (19 points) beat Clyst Hydon (four) by 127 runs

Yet again Kings won the toss and elected to bat. John Hardy and Badale yet again set about taking the attack to the opposition in their two very contrasting styles. Badale played balls on merit while J Hardy tried plundering most of his deliveries to the leg-side boundary. Badale was unlucky to be caught with a good return catch by the bowler from a ball which stopped on a very bowler-friendly pitch. Dan Hardy joined John Hardy until the latter was bowled by a ball which kept low. Edmonds joined Hardy and the pair put on 67 for the third wicket, until Hardy was out caught behind for 40 with the score on 100. The decision looked rather dubious as the bat was nowhere near the ball, but the umpire's decision is final. With the score on 100, Kings looked set for a reasonable score. Hammett came and went in his usual style, trying to push the score on and going for another large shot. At 141-8 the tail wagged with Churcher, Lynn and Head all adding valuable runs to allow Kings to finish on a reasonable 178. Kings new if they hit the right areas that the pitch would provide some assistance. Dan Hardy and Edmonds opened and bowled with great control and accuracy, reducing the normally prolific Clyst Hydon batting line-up to 15-5, with only two runs coming off the bat. The fielding was exceptional, with Ollie Robinson saving runs with some great stops and some exceptional catching by Badale and Head. Hardy finished with figures of 9-7-2-10 and Edmonds 9-2-16-3. Clark claimed a wicket and had a hand in a run-out thanks to an excellent throw from Head. Treeby claimed the other two wickets, bamboozling the opposition with some classy seam bowling, dismissing the opposition for 51 in just 24 overs. All in all another great result, there is still a slim chance Kings could get promoted but this requires results to go their way. They face a tough test away to Torquay, who are without doubt the strongest team in the league and will be looking to avenge the defeat they suffered at the hands of Kings earlier in the season.
