DCL 2nd XII C Division
Kingsbridge 2nd XI 209-7, Honiton 2nd XI 205-8.
Kingsbridge (19 points) beat Honiton (eight) by three
wickets
On losing the toss Kingsbridge were asked to field in hot sunny conditions.
Dan Hardy continued his form with the ball as he picked up another three wickets, which would have been more but for dropped catches.
Extras have been a problem for Kings this season and again another 48 were conceded, mostly from wides off the bowlers.
Beighton, who opened the batting for Honiton playing his first game of the season, carried his bat through the innings (possibly looking for day two!) made 39 not out from the team's 45 overs.
Wickets for Tony Treeby, James Ellis, Matt Hammett and Clive Clark weren't enough to bowl out the opposition as they made 205-8 from their allotted overs, definitely 30-40 too many from the home team's point of view.
Kingsbridge's reply started horribly as they found themselves 30-3 with Hardy, Matt Peach and Ellis all back in the pavilion in similar fashion, lbw given by the Honiton umpire.
Skipper Clark and Alex Browne restored the innings as they added a 50 partnership before both departed, being bowled after getting good starts.
This brought Mark Edmonds and Will Dorey to the middle with the home team still needing 100 runs to win.
Extras proved to be a problem for Honiton as well, with 50 being conceded to help Kingsbridge's cause as they chased down the total; Dorey added another 33 runs as Edmonds was caught for 13.
Vern Etoe led the team home as he helped himself to 28 not out, but it was Treeby who hit the winning runs, hitting 14 off three balls to give Kings their seventh win of the season winning by three wickets.
D Hardy was the pick of the bowlers with 3-26, well supported by Hammett's 2-34.
