South Hams Indoor Bowling Club took on Torquay United recently.

The rink of Sylvia Williams, Jan Senft, Diane Smith and Pat Janes, at home, started very well and after 10 ends it was 13-6.

Torquay picked their game up and pulled back to 15-15 on 18 ends; collecting three on the 21st end, they managed a win 18-17 to claim the two points.

The rink of Rachel Brothers, Maureen Geatches, Anita Elliott and Lesley Crutchley, also at home, were fast off the blocks and by 15 ends were well in front 23-8.

Torquay then had the better last few ends, narrowing the gap, but the South Hams ran out winners 25-17 and gained two points.

The away rink of Angela Sherlock, Melly Dore, Maureen Bartley and Brenda Welham had a very evenly balanced game, with both teams level at 9-9.

By 15 ends South Hams had edged in front 15-13, but things were all square again on 20 ends at 19-19. With shots against, Brenda Welham drew to the jack to win the game 20-19 and earn the Hams two points.

Val Harding, Pat Ramsay, Frances Ryan and?Mavis Wellington, playing away, had another finely balanced game, being 7-7 after 10 ends. By 18 ends South Hams had pulled away 16-10.

Torbay only managed to score ones on the last three ends, and South Hams held it together to win a very tight game 16-13 and pick up another two points.

South Hams gained eight points in total to make an excellent start to the season.
