THE final medal of the season came as a relief to some of the Dartmouth ladies with only two players coming close to par.
Chris Aresti finished top on the Championship course with a nett 83, ahead of Jodie Kenyon and Shelley Durrans, plus Caz Davies deserves a special mention for finishing her first medal round.
On the Dartmouth course, Barbara Dally won the nine-hole event and Kate Merriam the 18.
Better scoring in the men’s midweek stableford included a 38-point haul from Division One victor Paul Brown, two clear of Andy Dix.
In Division Two, John Thompson had 19 points at the turn but a series of one pointers gave him a 34-point total, still enough to overhaul the challenge from Steve Tozer.
As if the weather wasn’t giving enough clues, the first round of the men’s 2026/27 Winter League confirmed that the summer is long gone.
Last year’s winners Keith Sexton and Richie Ogle made a strong start to defending their crown, scoring 43 points. Andy Dix and Dave Sparks weren’t far behind with 41 points.
There was close scoring in the mixed stableford which was playing alongside the league.
Countback was required with Nathan Finch and Mark Whitworth scoring 33 points apiece and it was the former who got the edge, David Cooke taking the final podium spot.
If the ladies didn’t have the best day playing their medal competitions, they more than made up for it with their end of season lunch. Intended in part to thank Jules Vincent for her work in captaining the President’s squad, it was a good excuse to get everyone together socially.
Sadly, Jules fell victim to flu and was unable to attend, though she did send her final report which was read by Karen Oldrieve. Special mention has to go to the four ladies who arrived at the lunch by bus, for environmental reasons or otherwise.
