THERE was another trophy competition for the ladies at Dartmouth Golf Club to take part in this weekend.

Katie Panton was playing in her first championship medal event and whilst her score wasn’t going to win any prizes, it was a very good effort that included three pars.

Jules Vincent was playing alongside Karen Oldrieve in her first competition since returning from a skiing accident and, as the first group out, were completely unaware that they were battling for the trophy.

Karen’s verdict on her own card was less than complimentary when she finished with a Nett 78, so she was more than surprised to find that she had won the Yeoman Trophy, beating Jules on countback!

The Hardy-Jones title was also settled on countback. Chris Mushens was disappointed to have a nine on the fifteenth but not nearly as disappointed as Mary Thompson who, having parred the first three par threes, finished her round with a completely out-of-character 12 on the final hole. Sadly for Mary, this led to Chris beating her to the silverware.

Greensomes isn’t a regular format for the men but was on the cards for their midweek competition.

Half of the field finished with above-par scores but it was the top three teams that really shone.

Kevin Eighteen and Steve Tozer played solidly and finished in third place with 41 points, whilst John Oldrieve and Rob Barrett notched an impressive 24 points on the final eight holes for a total of 42, securing second.

Conversely, Malcolm Barrett and Ian Black played their best golf on the front nine and had the edge with 43 points.

Finally, after a disappointing loss last week, the ladies’ President’s Trophy team bounced back this week with a 4.5-2.5 home win over Torquay. Well played ladies.
