STADDON Heights was the location for Thurlestone’s Palairet clash with Dartmouth on Sunday 2 June. It was played in almost perfect golfing weather, and the Thurlestone team were determined to make the most of the conditions against very tough opposition.

TGC enjoyed a great team performance with superb golf being played across all pairs. Three of the five matches went down to the wire and were decided on the 18th green, the outcome always being touch-and-go.

Early deficits were turned around thanks to Thurlestone’s tenacity and they earned a 4-1 victory, booking a spot in the next round as a result. Congratulations go to captain Steve Inch and his team, who will now face either Portmore or Axecliff on July 7. Venue to be decided.

The Ladies Club Championship was held on Tuesday and Wednesday with several trophies being contested, most notably, the Oswald Cup for the best gross score and the Ford Salver for the best nett score.

This 36-hole medal competition, played over two days, began in cold and windy weather but a gorgeous, bright morning greeted everyone for round two on Wednesday.

Jennifer Roberts prevailed as the Club Champion once again, leading the field with a gross score of 166 across the two rounds. Liz Stewart and Julia Dorey completed the podium with scores of 177 and 179 respectively.

Julia Dorey may not have won the Oswald Cup but she did lift the Ford Salver, a nett score of 147 putting her ahead of second-placed Liz Stewart (151) and third-placed, the ladies captain herself, Pam Adams (154).

A great day was had by all and a big thanks go out to Pam for her hard work.

In other news, junior Martha Massingham has been selected to play for Devon Golf Under 18 girls in the forthcoming SW inter-county match week at Cumberwell Park.

The team was announced by the team manager, Hannah Stephens, at the Devon Junior Championships at Churston last Friday. It will be her first time playing for the County although she has been part of the squad for a year. She will play against teams from Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucester, Somerset & Wiltshire.

Martha joins a long list of TGC County representatives: Dave Eva, Dan Rosevear, Toby White who play for the men’s squad and Will Hoskin, Noah Mulligan, George Inch, Aiden Mulligan, Oliver Chester & Finn Robson who play for the boy's teams for Devon.

Well done Martha and well done to Steve White and team for the excellent coaching.

Martha also did well in the Junior Stableford Competition on Saturday. The competition was really close with Martha winning with 38 points on count-back. Followed closely by Will Robson in second and Harry Robinson in third who both scored 38 points as well.
