Wrangaton Golf Club

Wrangaton’s Palairet team progressed in to the next round of the competition after a 3-2 win over Yelverton Golf Club.

The match was played at Okehampton Golf Club and most of the matches were very close. Tommy Ryder and Ollie Nute won the final game to send Wrangaton through to the third round.

Wrangaton’s Plymouth area league team followed up last week’s away win with a home win against Elfordleigh Golf Club, the match result finished 3½ and 1½ in Wrangaton’s favour.

Peter Swift and Roger Cummins scored an impressive 42 points to win the vets Patsome event. Tony Dart and Ray Plowman finished runners-up with 41 points. Roger Cocking and Ken Dedman scored 39 points to take third place.

114 players took part in Wrangaton’s three-man open event. Chris Stolworthy (Wrangaton), Adam Stolworthy (Wrangaton) and John Cayless (Wrangaton) won the event with 90 points.

Lee Mundell (Wrangaton), Stewart Ewens (Tavistock) and Dean Dickerson (Boringdon) scored 88 points to take second place. Boringdon trio Kevin Heard, Keith Hagen and Paul Scorse finished in third place with 85 points.

Wrangaton members Gareth Andrews, Dave Poyser and Rich Anthony finished in fourth place with 84 points.

The best visiting team score was won by D Laniewski, R Hoare and A Phillips with a score of 81 points.

As usual at this time of year the ladies are in the thick of matches and club competitions.

The Easter Cup was won by Nessa Mabelle with 38 points and in second place was Angie Newman with 35 points; his was played on May 23.

On May 30 the ladies played the first round of the Beacon Cup and Angie Newman came first with a glorious net 69, closely followed by Wendy Roberts with a net 71 on countback from Stevie Foster and Sue Ansley.

On the same day there was a stableford competition for those who did not take part in the Beacon Cup and this was won by Jean Aspinall.

The Presidents team won against Yelverton at Wrangaton five games to two, and at home against Ilfracombe the match was halved.
