DEAN Raspin reigned victorious in the season-ending Love Cup at Dartmouth Golf Club.
Taking place on Monday, October 5, only those seniors who had won a qualifying event during the golfing year were eligible to win the cup, although the stableford itself was open to all.
In effect, two competitions ran in parallel: an all-winners event and the regular stableford.
Dean went round in a hugely impressive 42 points to claim victory in both tournaments following his outright win in the Senior’s Cup back in May. He also had the only two!
There were 36 players in the field on the championship course and Dean’s closest challengers were as follows.
Ian Black carded 37 points ahead of a trio on 34 points- Michael Whitelaw, defending Love Cup champion Andrew Dix and Bernard Taylor. Andy Dykes was also in and amongst it with 32 points.
This was also the final event offering points towards the coveted Senior of the Year title which went the way of Paul Harding who totalled an impressive 72 points.
Joining Paul on the podium were Dean (60pts) and Michael (48pts).
Congratulations to Dean and Paul on their fine performances throughout the season.
Thanks go to Nigel Osborne, who, in his inimitable style, tallied the scores and managed the data download.
Meanwhile, a nine-hole match was played against a touring side with disabilities at the end of September.
They were a very good side and beat Dartmouth’s seniors 4-2. An excellent day with a return planned next year.
Lastly, the rearranged match against Torquay was finally ticked. Torquay are a strong side and with home turf, they won 5-1.
Mark Whitworth and Malcolm Toone were the only winners by 3&2. Mario Aresti won the wine for nearest the pin on the 18th hole. Overall, it was a 9-3 loss over two legs.
