STOKE Gabriel & Torbay Police were without a game on Saturday, October 3, but there is still some big news coming out of the club.
Following a short stint away, fan’s favourite Saul Vanes has returned to Broadley Lane.
Vanes was one of several players to follow departing managerial duo Matt Hayden and Sam Biscoe over to SW Peninsula League rivals Newton Abbot Spurs but the winger’s stay at The Rec was short-lived.
He played and started in all 12 games, including in the goalless draw against Stoke Gabriel back in mid-August.
His highlights came in the cup competitions, curling home a free-kick against Bude Town at the first FA Vase hurdle and then assisting both games at the next, as Spurs beat Sticker AFC.
Meanwhile, in the St Luke’s Challenge Cup, he missed the only penalty of the shootout with Spurs exiting at the hands of Holsworthy AFC.
In the club’s statement, Vanes said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be back, and to be part of the club.
There’s unfinished business, and I can’t wait to get started again and hopefully make some more great memories along the way.”
Stoke visit rock-bottom Okehampton Argyle at Simmons Park on Saturday, October 10.
