SOUTH Hams Indoor Bowls Club ladies played their fourth game on January 25 in the National Yetton Plate at the neutral venue of Taunton Deane against a very strong North Wiltshire side.

Rink one with Sylvia Williams, Val Gregory, Diane Smith and skip Pat Janes had a close contest, which they won with a result of 19 shots to 14.

Rink two, comprising Val Harding, Maureen Bartley, Brenda Welham and skip Mavis Wellington lost 15 shots to 21.

Rink three, made up of Rachel Brothers, Mele Dore, Anita Elliot and skip Lesley Crutchley, drew at 19 shots apiece.

Rink four, with Viv Rogers, Maureen Geatches, Pat Ramsay and skip Fran Ryan, trailed all the way, and ended up losing by eight shots to 32.

The final score stood at South Hams 61, North Wilts 86.

The Hams are thus eliminated from the competition.

Also on January 25, the Hams provided a rink for the return of the inter-county fixture Devon vs Somerset. Devon came out on top overall by a clear 20 shots.

The outstanding performance came from the Hams quartet of Wilf Hutchens, John Yeabsley, Ron Elson and skip John Harding, with all four putting in some very telling bowls to easily be the top rink for a resounding win of 30 shots to 11.

On Sunday, January 26 Dartmouth were entertained in a mixed friendly. Rink one, with Dick Bond, David Snow, Anita Elliot and skip John Yeabsley, following a very close encounter, won by 14 shots to 12.

Rink two, with Betty Burgess-Allen, Aileen Dain, Tim Lewis and skip John Sherrard, trailed all the way, eventually losing by 13 shots to 23.

Rink three, composed of Pat Bond, Miles Grindrod, David Dain and skip Val Statters, fell behind early on, but then got their act together to win by 17 shots to 14.

Rink four, with Don Havis, Betty Lowe,

Viv Rogers and skip Anthony Hammett, experienced a very close match, but lost by 18 shots to 20. Overall a win for the visitors by 69 shots to 62.
