SDFL division one
Dartmouth 1,
Both Dartmouth teams were without a game this weekend due to waterlogged pitches, but they will be looking to progress into the next round of their respective cup competitions this Saturday.
However, some football was played during the week as Dartmouth were held to a 1-1 draw at home to mid table East Allington.
Dartmouth knew they would struggle to play their typical fast-flowing passing game on a boggy Longcross surface.
However, the midfield quartet of Mark Sneap, Liam Ford, Mark Forrester and Richie Baker began the game well by feeding balls through to the strike paring of Dan Broadway and the returning Liam McAuley.
Eric Thompson continued to deputise at the heart of the Dartmouth defence alongside Jordan Frost, and both began the game well dealing with a couple of Allington attacks.
The first real chance of the game nearly resulted in the opening goal, when an Allington corner resulted in Dartmouth's defender Freddie Smith slicing his clearance just over the home goal.
The visitors were edging the play in a scrappy game, and only a Jordan Frost tackle prevented the Allington number nine from getting his shot away at the retuning Sam Davies in the Dartmouth goal.
On the 25th minute, it could be said that the first goal of the evening came against the run of play, when Sneap calmly finished into the top corner of the net after good play from Ford to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The first half was not one to savour for the Longcross crowd in a game that had produced very little chances.
Dartmouth were dealt a blow when the influential Ford was forced off at the break with an injury, and Scott Mcroy was brought on in his place.
The hosts began the second half looking to grab the all-important second goal, with full-back Ryan Frost a threat down the left-hand side.
His cross into the area was intercepted by the brave visiting 'keeper when Broadway looked destined to tuck the ball way at the back post.
On the hour mark, Allington got their equaliser.
The visiting winger picked up the ball in the area, and his shot was sliced under the legs of Davies and into the home goal.
Immediately Dartmouth looked to retake the lead and a shot by McAuley in a crowded penalty area travelled agonisingly over the bar.
The last chance of the game came the way of the visitors, with Davies saving superbly from the Allington midfielder to give both sides a point.
On the balance of play it could be argued this was a fair result, although the visitors would be the happier of the two teams.
Tomorrow Dartmouth will be looking for revenge when they travel to Newton 66 in the Dartmouth Cup, who are the only side to defeat the Darts this season.
Dartmouth reserves are also away this week, where they have been pitted against South Brent reserves in the Les Bishop Cup.
The reserves have been without a game for five weeks and will be looking for their first win since defeating Salcombe Town. Both kick-offs are at 2pm.
