Devon Cricket League 2nd XI C division South Devon 2nd XI 88 all out, Kingsbridge 2nd XI 90-4. Kingsbridge (21 points) beat South Devon (two) by six wickets
Kingsbridge second XI played host to South Devon last weekend in a game they needed to win. South Devon batted first against a team that fielded three members of the club's under 14 side. Ben Woods opened the bowling and first change saw Sam West on his debut. However, it was the introduction of Louis Lynn (4 for 19 from seven overs) into the attack that saw wickets start to tumble as 26 for 1 quickly became 36 for 5. A brief recovery followed but Matt Hammett's outstanding figures of 5 for 5 from 4.3 overs put paid to this as South Devon were bowled out for 88. Extras top scored with 22. Low scores are never easy to chase, and this was proved once again as Alex Browne went for a duck. Dan Hardy then departed for 14, Ritchie Mitchelmore for 11 and Rob Head followed for a duck as Kings soon found themselves in a spot of bother at 36 for 4. This brought two U14s to the crease, Sam West and George Holland. These two showed that Kingsbridge's youth policy is beginning to pay dividends as they calmly guided their team home, finishing on 23no and 21no respectively. Kings seconds next face a tough trip to table-topping Clyst Hydon. Kingsbridge's first team, however, endured a significantly less fruitful day at the office, being bowled out for 54 by South Devon at their place and picking up just one point. The Kings claimed two wickets, but South Devon knocked off the small total without alarm to move level on points with Ipplepen at the top of the table. The firsts will be looking to bounce back tomorrow when they welcome mid-table Clyst Hydon.
