KINGSBRIDGE opener James Westlake passed a significant milestone for the second season in a row during the team’s 70-run win over doomed South Devon.

Westlake opened up with 38 – he and Freddie Ford (36) put 67 on the board – which took him past 500 league runs for the season again. He got as far as 667 in 2025.

Flynn Taylor rapped 85 off 69 balls – 10 fours, four sixes – as Kingsbridge advanced towards 281 all out. Richard Carr (27) chipped in.

South Devon captain Jack Allen accounted for Taylor on his way to bowling figures of five for 46.

Taylor (3-53) had South Devon on the ropes at nine for two in the third over, Dan Yates (49) and Josh Vicary (10) showed some resolve until Carr split them up.

Two wickets for Neal Peach (2-37) and a third for Freddie Weir (2-27) reduced South Devon to 89 for six.

Yates was still there and his stand of 67 with Richard Beaumont (50no) helped South Devon to a respectable 211 all out.

Meanwhile, Cornwood 2nd XI slipped back into their losing ways against Brixham, who turned them over by 82 runs at Boundary Park.

The Wood had gone four games without a win before defeating Chudleigh last time out. Hopes of a late-season revival were dashed when Brixham piled-up 246 for six, then bowled out Cornwood for 164.

Mark Orchard (38) and Tom Hopper (20) primed the pumps for Brixham, followed by Mo Shaikh (67) and Gangul Ravina (54no) getting on top of the Cornwood bowling.

Cornwood captain Alex Robinson counted Shaikh in his three-for-18 return.

Cornwood wavered from 90 for three to 92 for six then 104 for seven as their run chase went lame. Josh Goodliffe (27) and Matt Puttock (28) were among the departed.

The Caunter brothers – Jacob (35) and Josiah (12no) – made the final score a little more respectable by putting on 51 for the eighth wicket.

Shaikh (2-19) gave nothing away when he bowled. Tim Robinson (4-28) picked-up wickets in the bottom half.
