Upton Athletic

seconds 1

Beesands suffered significant storm damage recently with one aspect being the damage to the road leading to The Cellars.

The bad weather had seen Beesands games impacted such that this was their first game in a month. This delay, and opponents Upton Athletic arriving late by 35 minutes, seemed to work the Bees into a frenzy.

The Bees had a number of enforced changes due to non-availability.

From the kick-off the Bees attacked, forcing a corner taken by Dave Lang and headed wide by Tim Bromfield.

A further Bees attack found Morgan but the ball bobbled and his shot was high.

A majority of Bees attacks were coming down the right flank with Dave Lang involved.

Against the run of play Athletic produced an attack and got a good shot in which Carl Hoare saved with his foot. Bees broke away and Dave Lang forced a corner which he took but the wind carried behind.

Bees relentless pressure finally paid rewards when Hayward's shot was parried out by the 'keeper and Morgan hit home for a well-deserved 1-0 lead. With the bit between their teeth the Bees carried on where they had left off – attacking.

Despite plenty of pressure, the scorew remained 1-0 when the referee blew the whistle for half-time.

The second half kicked off with the wind in the visitors' favour and they attacked from the off with Sean Raymont's headed clearance ultimately being cleared by Wellens' foot. While the wind was an advantage they displayed little penetrative power.

Jason Wilkes replaced a tiring Hayward and immediately got into the action passing to Morgan, who shot over. Wilkes followed up with a battling display in the area and a shot that was saved.

Nick Bromfield's interception found Dave Lang whose lovely ball through to Morgan was stroked past the 'keeper for 2-0.

Athletic hit back, forcing a corner which Harvey cleared before Beesands won a corner. Wellens' precise delivery was headed by Morgan against the 'keeper and back out but Tim Bromfield followed it up and headed home for 3-0.

With the Bees in free-flowing attacking form Morgan's through pass to Wilkes saw his shot blocked by the 'keeper.

Jed Tucker replaced an injured TJ Lang. Morgan's long cross to Wilkes produced a curling shot that was just wide. Wilkes followed up with another shot which was saved.

An Athletic free kick into the area was blocked by Hoare but hit back in for a 3-1 scoreline. Within minutes a lovely through ball from Nick Bromfield to Morgan saw him bowled over by the 'keeper for a penalty which Tim Bromfield smashed home for 4-1.

Jed Tucker played a ball from a wide position to Nick Bromfield, who skipped across the area before shooting home for 5-1. The man-of-the-match was Dave Harvey.

Beesands next match is away, Saturday 1st March against Brixham Town at St Mary's Park. Kick off at 2.30pm. All are welcome to come and support the Bees.
