After proving his versatility by rowing in the quad sculls, and picking up a gold medal in the process, at the first world cup in Sydney, Kingswear's rowing sensation Bill Lucas is back in the double sculls for the second world cup event at Eton Dorney later this month.

Lucas will be partnering sculls newbie Matt Langridge, a men's eight bronze medallist and former men's four world champion, so it will be interesting to see how they get on.

For Lucas, it will be the first time back on the waters of Eton Dorney since last summer's Olympics, where he and teammate Sam Townsend, now rowing in the quad sculls, finished fifth in the final of the double sculls.

A total of 81 rowers across 29 boats will contest the event with the dual aim of winning medals while also offering top-level racing experience to emerging talents.

By contrast, when the World Cup last took place at Eton Dorney, in 2005, GB fielded just 63 rowers in 17 boats.

'We will have a big crowd at Eton Dorney on all three days and it will be a good opportunity to give our emerging and U23 crews the chance to taste the intensity of World Cup racing alongside our more established and experienced stars', said GB Rowing performance director Sir David Tanner.

'I am sure we will give the home crowd some exciting racing', he added.
