DCL 2nd XI B division

all out,

Kingsbridge (nine points) lost to South Devon (20 points)

by four runs

Anyone watching at the Butts on Saturday would have witnessed Kingsbridge yet again lose a match from a winning position.

South Devon skipper Neil Matthews won the toss and opted to bat first, and it proved to be the correct decision as the wicket got slower and kept low in the second innings.

South Devon posted 204-8 thanks to 53 extras, 42 of them in wides, gifting the visitors seven extra overs that proved vital.

Three excellent catches were taken from Jerome Innocent and father and son Dale and Elliott Bradbury.

Elliott Bradbury and Shaun Taylor were the pick of the bowlers, Bradbury with 2-43 from 13 overs and Taylor with 5-37 from 13 overs.

In reply, the hosts lost two early wickets before Ed Church came in to partner opener Matt Peach. Peach continued his rich vein of form, stroking 69, including eight fours and one six.

Church played the anchor role with a more patient 41. Mark Edmunds, always reliable, hit 26 and Elliot Bradbury 16.

Once Bradbury was adjudged LBW to a controversial decision from the away umpire, Kingsbridge lost their way and were bowled out for exactly 200, to lose by four tragic runs.

Without the 53 extras, Kingsbridge would have reached their target with 20 overs to spare.

Kingsbridge have got close in the last two weeks thanks to the innings of Matt Peach; let's hope he gets three figures and a win at Ottery St Mary on Saturday. The club wishes to thank Terry Patey for umpiring at short notice.
