When we opened the doors to Verse on February 19, we hoped to create a restaurant that would celebrate great food, thoughtful hospitality and the incredible produce available here in the South Hams. Just a few months later, we are delighted to say that the response has been beyond anything we could have imagined.
From local residents looking for somewhere special to dine, to visitors discovering the area for the first time, we have been fortunate to welcome guests from near and far. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with wonderful reviews appearing across Google, TripAdvisor and The Fork. While positive reviews are always appreciated, what means even more to us is seeing guests return, recommend us to friends and become part of the growing Verse community.

We have always believed that a memorable restaurant experience is about much more than what appears on the plate. Food is, of course, at the heart of everything we do, but atmosphere plays an equally important role. One of the things guests mention most often is the music. From Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie to Oasis, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys, our playlists are packed with the songs and bands people know and love. We wanted Verse to feel different from the traditional fine dining experience – somewhere guests can enjoy exceptional food without formality, where the soundtrack sparks conversation, memories and the occasional singalong. Combined with attentive service, creative cocktails and a vibrant dining room, it helps create a fun, relaxed atmosphere that guests remember long after the last course has been served.
Behind the scenes, sustainability continues to shape many of the decisions we make in the kitchen. We work hard to use ingredients thoughtfully and responsibly, making the most of what each season provides. Traditional preservation techniques such as fermenting, pickling and preserving allow us to reduce waste while creating exciting flavours and textures throughout our menus. These methods not only help us operate more sustainably but also enable us to celebrate ingredients at their very best long after their peak season has passed.

As the restaurant continues to evolve, we are excited to introduce a new midweek offering that reflects our belief that exceptional dining should be accessible as well as memorable.
Launching soon, Wednesday evenings at Verse will become Rotisserie Chicken & Wine Night. Built around beautifully prepared rotisserie chicken and carefully selected wines, the evening will offer guests a more affordable way to experience Verse. At £45 per person, compared with our usual £65 tasting menu, it provides a relaxed and approachable midweek dining option without compromising on quality.

Guests will begin with house-made focaccia, rosemary and garlic marinated olives, confit garlic with extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic, alongside tzatziki with pickled cucumber and hot honey. The main event is our locally farmed marinated rotisserie Creedy Carver chicken, served with dishes designed for sharing, including chicken dripping baby roast potatoes, Caesar salad and corn ribs and a selection of different butters for dunking! For vegetarian guests, a harissa roasted cauliflower with hummus, almonds and parsley will take centre stage. To finish, diners can choose between crème caramel or house made English strawberry soft serve with elderflower and English fizz jelly.
The support we have received since opening has been remarkable, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has visited, shared a recommendation or left a review. Verse was created to be a restaurant that celebrates flavour, creativity and connection, and we are excited about what comes next.
As we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: exceptional ingredients, genuine hospitality and memorable experiences, right here in Kingsbridge, the heart of the South Hams. Whether guests join us for our tasting menu or the new Wednesday Rotisserie Chicken & Wine Night, we look forward to welcoming them and continuing to write the next chapter of the Verse story.
