MARY BOURNE, of Church Street, Kingsbridge, writes: The increase in ragwort seen flowering along our coasts is worrying because it is poisonous to livestock. It is thriving particularly on Burgh Island, where someone from the hotel said it was not the concern of the hotel to remove it from the rest of the island, but is the responsibility of the local council or the Duchy of Cornwall. Ragwort seems to spread along the footpaths and is still mainly found close to the paths. A little publicity put up at intervals would help locals and holidaymakers alike to identify the plants. If bins were made available for disposing of the plants I'm sure many walkers would be happy to pull up a few clumps while they are out enjoying the area and so help to remove it before it spreads to more inaccessible places.
