Suzanne Phillips, of Badger Close, Dartmouth, writes: No one has the right to put up posters telling people not to vote for someone. Despite the personal opinion of Nigel Way being thrust upon the locals, those in the community make their own choices in such matters. Mr Way put up the posters and the mayor, the tourist information centre, the Dart-mouth Business Improvement District and Visit South Devon seem to be asking others to turn a blind eye to the situation. Remarkably, they have allowed Mr Way to continue in his roles, even though they say they do not condone what he has done. The hypocrisy is unbelievable. I am disgusted that anyone should get away with this. What utter nonsense – it is tantamount to corruption. Mr Way should stand down from the BID and the TIC and I hope the town council will distance itself from those who support his actions. There should be no place for those who are utterly intolerant of the views and opinions of others in any organisation. In this case, Mr Way seems to have responded inappropriately to Dave Cawley's views on the TIC's spending, as reported in the Chronicle, July 17. Someone has to take a stand against those who feel they can do what they like. I certainly do not want them making decisions about local issues in my town.
