APPLE pie is back on the menu this weekend as a popular and quirky event raising funds for a new community hall returns.

Avonwick’s third annual Apple Pie Fair takes place this Sunday, September 18 on the site of the proposed new Avonwick and North Huish Community Hall next to the play park.

Beginning at 12.30pm, the day features apple themed events and activities including an apple pie baking competition and a chance to press your own apple harvest, as well as arts and crafts, a bring and buy stall, plants and preserves. Steve Hopper of South Devon Hawks and Owls will also bring along some of his spectacular birds of prey.

A barbecue will provide savoury snacks alongside a tea tent and bar, and there will of course be plenty of apple pie and cream.

As well as offering seasonal fun for locals and visitors, organisers hope the fair will help raise awareness and funds for the Avonwick and North Huish Community Hall Project.

Project chairman Paul Tyler said: ’The Apple Pie Fair is a fun event that’s open to everyone to attend. Last year built on the success of the first and we are hoping to go one better again this year.

’We hope that local people and visitors will come along and join in with the community spirit, perhaps by bringing your surplus plants, produce and homemade cakes for the bring and buy stall, or simply to enjoy the atmosphere and local food and drink. In doing so, you’ll be making a really positive contribution to the fundraising efforts for the new community hall.’
