Sue and Richard Agar, of Ashleigh House, Kingsbridge write:
We would like to add our views to those already expressed on the proposed development known as K5 on Westville Hill. Whatever anyone claims we were not consulted about this proposed Development two years ago and only learnt about it in May of this year. It appears that our elected 'representatives' and council officers are blindly following orders to fulfil quotas of houses regardless of need.
We run a large B&B in Westville and are lucky enough to have many guests who return, sometimes several times a year because they love Kingsbridge, referring to it as a special place where they can get away from it all and relax in a beautiful, natural location. They like walking down the hill into town enjoying the scenery, the variety of unique shops and cafes and of an evening the local pubs and restaurants. Over the course of the year the number of guests from our establishment alone spending money in the town can be as much as £2,000. It is our view that if this development goes ahead, Kingsbridge will become a less attractive place to visit and indeed live and the local economy will suffer as a result.
The majority of the property in the proposed development does not address the local housing need for homes that young families on low incomes can afford, so who will live in these houses and where will they work? Is there really a need for more unaffordable housing, there seems to be lots of it on the market in the area? The traffic congestion on Westville Hill is already very bad and this development will only add to it, we still fail to understand how the access to the site is going to work at busy times. The remote location of Kingsbridge, inadequate transport infrastructure, lack of local employment makes this a totally inappropriate development.
Also remember once a beautifull green field site has been decimated by an ill conceived housing development it is lost forever.
